Sitting in an office all day looking at a computer screen isn’t conducive to your physical or emotional health. You need to break away, and give your back, neck, body, and soul a break at least a few times a day. Here are four simple tips to beat the back-ache at work blues.

1. Prioritize your health
It is easy to get caught up in the workday with deadlines to meet, clients to appease, and work to get done, but it is pivotal for your mental well-being and physical health to make some time for yourself. Make it a habit to have some time for self-care at least three times a day.
2. Take a walk
Get up, push in your chair, and go outside. Take a walk around the building, neighborhood or parking garage. Besides getting your steps in, Vitamin D is an important resource. Walking is a highly underrated form of exercise!
3. Support your back and neck
If you don’t have the option to have a standing desk to help minimize the time you sit in a day, make sure your computer monitor is level with your eyes (the top should be no lower than your eyebrows). If you need to boost your seat, or add something under your monitor to elevate your desk to an appropriate level, do so. I have so many patients that have ailments that stem from sitting at their desk, and how their head and neck is positioned for 8 hours a day.
4. Stay hydrated and stretch
Often when we feel dehydrated, we can feel it in our back, shoulders, head, and neck. Drink plenty of water every day. Also, if you have room in your office, consider using some downtime to do some stretches to support your back and neck health.
